Red 2021
An intense and delicious wine, with a brilliant color and a rich nose of red and black fruits.
2021 was a winemaker vintage and required great responsiveness to very variable weather, comforting us in the pursuit of our good work in the vineyard. Winter was mild, followed by spring frosts before a dry mid-spring and then a cool summer with record rainfall. By stripping the leaves at the beginning of July, our grapes remained healthy. The harvest started in good conditions with the whites on September 13th in Brézème (-80% harvest due to frost), followed by Crozes-Hermitage and Condrieu. The summer conditions preserved a rare balance in our region. The Marsanne and Roussanne reveal freshness, minerality and precision, the Viogniers aromas of fresh fruit and a mouth full of finesse. For the reds, the lowland vineyards are full of indulgence with floral aromas and soft tannins. Finally, the granite terroirs reveal notes of pepper and spices and a rich palate.
The terroir is complex and varied, composed in places of granite, rolled pebbles, and limestone. In the 'Grandes Vignes' area, granite soils dominate. The wines produced have a certain minerality, but also a beautiful texture of tannins. This sector represents 30% of our blend. The wines we obtain in the rolled pebble terroirs are rich and complex in terms of aromas. They represent the backbone of our wine, constituting 60% of our blend. Finally, the limestone soil refines the finesse and elegance of the wine. These three very complementary terroirs each contribute to the final blend.
- Cold pre-fermentation maceration.
- Then maceration and fermentation, with pumping over then punching down towards the end, for 28 days.
- Aged in new barrels (30%) and one-year-old barrels (70%) for 15 months.
Superb intense dark-red colour with shiny reflections. The nose reveals a beautiful, powerful and complex aromatic expression, with notes of black fruit such as blackberry and blackcurrant, subtly mixed with notes of wood evoking undergrowth with aromas of sweet spices, a lovely smokiness and a warm and delicate oakiness. Perfectly balanced between a powerful and distinguished structure, a beautiful freshness and a slight delicacy, the palate is of great dignity, with finely crafted tannins. It continues with a long and elegant finish, particularly aromatic.
