Cornas
Red 2019
Benefiting from an exceptional position combining the coolness of the altitude with the warmth of the sun, this Cornas is a powerful wine with elegant notes of black fruits.
After a mild winter and spring, conditions were perfect when everything changed on June 15: a hailstorm destroyed a large part of the Crozes-Hermitage vines. Then came the summer heatwave, one of the hottest of the decade, which caused some berries to become scorched. Fortunately, the teams' efforts have kept the preserved part of the vineyard in extraordinary condition. And while Nature is sometimes harsh with man, it can also be generous. The harvest went perfectly, and while quantities are limited, this vintage promises to be magnificent, despite a climatically and morally complicated year. Years ending in 9 regularly mark the memory of winegrowers, and this one seems to be no exception.
Located at an altitude of over 250 m on terraces of decomposed granite, the vineyard benefits from a beautiful southern and south-eastern exposure.
- Cold pre-fermentation maceration to develop the fruit.
- Maceration and fermentation for around twenty days with pumping over during the first few days then punching down towards the end.
- Aged in one and two wine barrels for 15 months.
This 100% Syrah wine from the steep slopes of Cornas offers an intense and complex nose with notes of stewed black fruits, violet and pepper mixed with smoky notes. Well-structured, the palate reveals very silky tannins, plenty of fruit and a lovely freshness on the finish. This wine will be sublime from its fourth year with grilled red meats and game, but it can also be kept for many years
