Maison Les Alexandrins Saint-Joseph - 2017
Saint Joseph was originally called “Vin de Tournon”. The monks who lived in this little village used to produce wine from the vineyard at the top of the hill behind the village.
The terroir in Saint Joseph is mainly composed of granite. The vineyard spreads out 40km along the right bank of the Rhône river. For our first vintage we wanted to make a balanced wine using grapes from the north of the appellation, which bring minerality and fruit, and ones from the historical centre of Saint Joseph that give more flesh to the wine. The blending makes wines with great distinction and extremely balanced.
After the historically dry and hot summer, the wines give an impression of opulence, concentration and generosity. Ageing will allow the wines to soften and slowly find their balance.
In the north of the appellation, the villages of St Pierre de Boeuf and Chavanay.
Maceration and fermentation for about 20 days with pumping-over for the first few days followed by punching-down. Ageing in 1 and 2 year old barrels for 12 months to bring concentration to the wine.
Black, fresh, bouquet of red and black fruit (cherry, currant, blueberry), discreet notes of ageing, beautiful aromatic complexity. On the palate the attack is rich and tense, evolving between freshness and power, powerful and tight tannins, long and aromatic finish of black fruit and mineral notes.
Serve at 17°C on grilled meats or small game.
Syrah : 100 %
Ripe and warm in feel, with a plush edge to the mix of red currant, plum and blackberry preserve flavors. Light anise, singed apple wood and sweet tobacco accents chime in on the finish.

Dark magenta. Ripe black and blue fruit aromas are complicated by olive, licorice and potpourri nuances. Palate-coating blueberry, cassis, dark chocolate and vanilla flavors become livelier as the wine opens up. Clings with very good tenacity on a broad, jammy finish that features well-knit tannins and resonating floral and spice character.

Cool strikes of granite and graphite extend from nose to finish in this intensely mineral, medium-bodied Syrah. It’s a zesty wine marked by crisp blackberry and cherry flavors and a backbone of bristling acidity. Gripping tannins frame the finish. Best now–2025.
