Saint-Joseph
Red 2019
The aim with our Saint-Joseph is to combine a mineral note, characteristic of wines from the Rhône Valley, with a fruity note, typical of the Saint-Joseph appellation.
After a mild winter and spring, conditions were perfect when everything changed on June 15th: a hailstorm destroyed a large part of the Crozes-Hermitage vines. Then we experienced a heatwave in the summer, one of the hottest of the decade, which caused some berries to burn. Our team’s efforts paid back fortunately and we managed to save part of the vineyard in great sanitary condition. And if Nature is sometimes harsh, it can also be generous. The harvest went perfectly well and although the quantities are limited, this vintage promises to be magnificent, despite a climatically and morally complicated year. The years in 9 regularly mark the memory of winegrowers and this vintage was no exception.
The Saint-Joseph vines wind along the Rhône. They are planted on slopes covered in granite (decomposed in parts) facing east/south-east.
- Maceration and fermentation for about 20 days with pumping over for the first few days and then punching down towards the end.
- Ageing in barrels for a period of 12 months.
Bewitching deep-black dress. On the nose, this wine reveals a beautiful aromatic complexity with notes of red and black fruit. Powerful and full in the mouth, it is well structured, with melted tannins, and aromas combining vanilla and toasted notes, with almost candied wild black fruit., This elegant wine can be enjoyed within five years and will go wonderfully with grilled meats casserole dishes.
